COPACABANA LAGOON KAYAK - 17 AUGUST 2016
A great day for a kayak at Copacabana (Cockrone) lagoon. The weather was sunny with a light wind.
The water level was high in the lagoon. It was heaps of fun paddling through the water bounded casuarinas and paper bark trees.
The main tributary was still and primal but the water was too high to go under the bridge.
Paddling around one bend were a pair of black swans. I watched them for ages. One of them gave me a honk when I got too close.
A fun3.36km kayak.

CENTRAL COAST - 'BIRDS OF AVOCA LAGOON' - KAYAK - 9 JANUARY 2015
The surf was messy but the wind nil and the sun was shining, so off for a kayak.
I paddled around Avoca lagoon. I paddled casually and enjoyed the shades of morning light, the reflections on the water and the numerous birds.
A pied cormorant put on a great show. I was so close and the sun was shining through the wings. The bird seemed to strike a number of poses for the camera.
A great kayak.
BIRD INFO
The Purple Swamphen has a resplendent purple-blue neck, breast and belly, and a gaudy, oversized bill and frontal shield, both of which are bright red, as are its beady eyes.
The Black-winged Stilt is a large black and white wader with long orange-red legs and a straight black bill. It has black on the back of the neck, a white collar and a red iris.

CENTRAL COAST - COCKRONE (COPACABANA) LAGOON - KAYAK - 30 OCTOBER 2014 - 'SMILE ON THE DIAL'
A sunny morning with a west wind.
I drove to Copacabana to kayak Cockrone Lagoon.
This lagoon is so clean, as well as, being pristine in most sections. I saw two pieces of rubbish during the whole kayak.
There were a number of birds but the highlight was the water level, which was high. A lot of land area was inundated with water so there was a lot of kayaking between trees and over reed areas. Heaps of fun.

CENTRAL COAST - Cockrone Lagoon - kayak - 28 september 2012
Off for another kayak. This time Cockrone Lagoon at Copacabana.
I hadn't done this kayak for awhile but was surprised at how much I didn't remember!
I launched on the southern side at a small park. there were heaps of ducks there and for awhile I was waylaid watching them. there was one very attractive female duck that attracted the advances of over a dozen male ducks. Funny, I thought most birds bred with only one partner. Maybe ducks are different. I'll need to find a duck expert for the answer.
Eventually, I launched and slowly paddled my way around the lagoon. There were a number of experiences along the way.
There as a small feeder creek with properties on one side of its bank. It was nice the way the land owners had kept the scene natural.
Near the same area, I came across a number of birds. The most impressive birds were the swans and their hatchlings paddling along in single formation. the chicks were white in stark contrast to the black feathered parents. A little later, I also came across a nest with three eggs.
The biggest creek was fun to paddle along. It had two bridge, one which was quite low. the base of the bridges were covered in webs and spiders. It creek also had a number of log and branch obstacles.
A great kayak with birds, bridges and eggs!
