INDONESIA, BALI, LOVINA - 20 TO 24 AUGUST 2022

20 AUGUST

BALIAN

A terrible surf – windy and messy.

LOVINA

Time for a change. We organized transport for 550000r and booked the Lovina Beach Hotel and off we went. A nice drive and after two hours we were settled into our hotel.

We walked over to the restaurant area in Kalibukbuk and were bombarded by sellers along most of the way. We had a a nice lunch at the vegan restaurant.

I had a relaxing massage. Later in the afternoon, we sat down near the beach, had a few beers and watched the sun set and the local people doing their afternoon weekend thing.

Dinner was in ‘town’ then back to the hotel for sleep.

21 AUGUST

We started the day with a long walk along the coastal path towards the east. It was quiet and it was interesting viewing the area without the bothering. the local village was friendly.

Later, a swim in the hotel pool (very hot here) , another great lunch at the vegan restaurant and sunset drinks on the beach.

22 AUGUST

I went for a snorkeling trip to Menjangan Island. It took a while to get there by car and boat. The snorkeling was good though you had to dive at least two metres down to get the clearest view of the corals and the fish.

23 AUGUST

We had a morning walk to the west. We passed fishing boats and a muslim village. The village was fun to wander around ... no dogs.

Breakfast and then a massage down the road.

Vegan lunch and a sensational dinner on the main road with a short Balinese dance performance.

24 AUGUST

We had another morning walk to the east but veered up a street towards the main road dotted with accommodation and restaurants.

Back to hotel, breakfast then a drive to Balian.

INDONESIA - BALI - BALIAN - 27 JULY TO 19 AUGUST 2022

 27 JULY TO 19 AUGUST 2022

Life in Balian takes a leisurely routine. Usually, an early morning surf followed by breakfast and a second surf. The wind generally increases anytime from 11am from cross to onshore.

The surf varied a lot during this time from well over head height to waist height. Mainly, it was big and fun.

All this surfing causes havoc with the body – leg aches, arm aches and dehydration. All part of the fun and nothing serious.

On the small or crappy surf mornings, Jacinta and I walked to the village and along a number of small back roads and back to the hotel.

During the day, we would swim in the pool, have a walk, chat to people, do yoga/exercises or read.

The restaurants are a little limited and only one was taking visa card. The restaurants we frequented were Tekor, Casa and Dekis. There were other restaurants and warungs to choose from.

A lot of chatting goes on with people staying for short times then moving on. We have met a lot of people from various parts of the world – France, Sweden, Germany, India, Australia, New Zealand.

Presently the surf is terrible … time for a break 😊

INDONESIA, BALI, BALIAN - 14 TO 23 JULY 2022

14 JULY

Settling in to the Balian.

An early surf. Good waves but I was so unsurf fit. Got a few waves and pounded a lot. Breakfast and another surf and did even worse. Haha.

The wind increased and we had a restful afternoon.

Dinner again at Tekor. Amused by a very thin guy doing contortions. He seemed very lost.

15 JULY

An early surf at shoulder height on the lefts. All good and back to normal. Had heaps of good waves.

Breakfast.

Another surf on lefts but not as good as the morning. Had some good waves.

Dinner at Tekor with Brett and Sandra.

16 JULY

The swell was bigger again. Paddled out with Dave from Lawn, Victoria. A lot of water movement and the waves were breaking randomly. Eventually, I had one good big wave and two more not so good waves.

Rest of the day was relaxing.

Ceremony on the beach. I followed the procession down to the beach and over to the river. There were a lot of blessings!

17 JULY

An early surf. I tried the outside and inside lefts but surfed poorly plus there was a lot of water movement.

Lunch – Yamu. A pretty location by the river.

Dinner – Casa. The food was so yummy. Fun time with Dave and Jo from Hobart.

18 JULY

An early surf. Paddled out the back to try the rights. Didn’t do too good but I tried. Moved over to the lefts and had a fun time in the smaller waves.

Massage with Putu – 100 000R okay but a bit hard.

Lunch Dekis

Dinner at the Casa.

19 JULY

Early surf. Fun outside rights and a couple of lefts. New board worked well.

Breakfast

Second surf. A bit bumpy but the board just guided through.

Rest, Lunch at Dekis and another rest.

An afternoon hike along Secret Bay, the nature path, Mejan Beach, ricefields and a stop in the markets for ice creams and oranges.

Dinner at Istanni. Met Jason and Emma from Victoria. A good night of conversation.

20 JULY

Early surf. A bit smaller with the waves a bit infrequent but still there were fun rights and lefts.

Breakfast

Second surf was a bit crowded with a few okay waves.

Dinner at Casa.

21 JULY

An early walk along the beach.

Breakfast

A fun surf. A little bumpy but then the wind dropped off and there were some good sized lefts. Wind came back and in I went. On the shore , I caught up with Givan and had an interesting chat.

Lunch at dekis.

Dinner with Jason and Emma. Another fun night.

22 JULY

An early surf but caught no good waves. Feeling very ordinary and was sick the rest of the day.

23 JULY

Rest day as still not so well.
