LAWRENCE - 17 TO 19 SEPTEMBER 2020

LAWRENCE

17 SEPTEMBER 2020

We arrived late in the afternoon at Lawrence to visit Jacinta';s sister. We had dinner and shared stories of the last six weeks.

I felt pretty ordinary today.

18 SEPTEMEBR 202

We woke to a foggy morning.

I was not feeling too good – splitting headache.

Lazy day

19 SEPTEMEBER

We left Lawrence for Emerald Beach.

YAMBA - 16 TO 17 SEPTEMBER 2020

16 SEPTEMBER 2020

After a hike near Evans Head we drove towards Yamba. The phone system was down at Yamba, unbeknownst to us, so we couldn’t contact our friend Julie. We detoured to Maclean for coffee and while there we were able to make contact.

We drove to Yamba and Jungle Jules home. It was a great night of chatting and drinking. Eventually, I went to bed and was woken by Jacinta and Julie giggling and bouncing off the van at 1:30am. They had a good time.

17 SEPTEMBER 2020

A great night lead to feeling very ordinary in the morning.

We had a morning chat with Julie and Zane and headed off to the beach at Yamba. We rested there and later drove to Lawrence.

EVANS HEAD - 13 TO 16 SEPTEMBER 2020

13 SEPTEMBER 2020

We left Woodenbong with our first stop being Tooloom Falls.

There was limited parking at the closed gate. We past the gate and the cattle grid and were soon in the picnic area. The falls were close. The falls were in a wide arc shape with water cascading from one area. Just before the falls was a wide concrete weir that was backing up the water. The water was filled with weed. It looked like it would be a pretty kayak. The bottom of the falls was a large pool. We could walk across the weir but we couldn’t find access to get to the base of the falls.

A very pretty place and no one was there.

Our next stop was Bean Creek Falls. The road leading to the falls was a bit rough with room for only one car. We drove a short distance and came to a sign indicating the falls track. We found an area to back off the road and walked the steep track down to the falls. There was a platform lookout. The falls were a semi circle with a long drop to the base but unfortunately there was no water. Still it looked very impressive. We walk down a short track to the top of the falls. There were pools of water on the rocky creek bed with weed, small fish and bugs. I walked around the dry creek rock bed.

Another pretty place with no one there.

We stopped at the Banolba Hotel for lunch and decided to press on to Evans Head.

It was another two hours driving but eventually we arrived at the camp, settled in and had a short walk along the beach. It was a lovely afternoon for checking out the new venue.

14 SEPTEMBER 2020

A good sleep.

It was time for clothes cleaning. Once they were all washed and hung out to dry. We headed to the beach. I had a surf and Jacinta baked. I had a fun time on some nice right-handers. It was nice to get into the waves again. The waves started in front of the river mouth which seemed sort of odd to me.

Later, we had a bike ride to the two, rocky river breakwalls. It was a good ride through the town and along the river banks.

15 SEPTEMBER 2020

I had a surf in the morning. There were a few more surfers out but there were heaps of fun right handers. A good time!

The rest of the day was lazy and sitting down at the beach.

16 SEPTEMBER 2020

I checked the surf early and it was looking good. I had a fun surf on some nice right hand waves. Heaps of waves!

Back at camp we packed and left for a hike along the southern coastal side of Evans Head. It was a very pretty hike – heaps of birds, a number of flowers in bloom, an endless stretch of heath hinterland and a beautiful coastline of long sandy beaches.

WOODENBONG - 12 TO 13 SEPTEMBER 2020

WOODENBONG

12 SEPTEMBER 2020

We left Rainforest Gateway Camp and headed towards Kyogle Mountain Bike Park.

There was no one there so I rode the tracks solo. There were three intermediate tracks that were long and challenging. They all ended in the same location with a steep uphill walk to the start of the tracks. I great morning.

Our next stop was Kyogle for supplies.

On the way to Woodenbong with visited Moore Park Nature Reserve. There was a hike through a dry rainforest along a track that became a little difficult to follow. There were bird calls and it was very quiet. Back at the picnic area, we could see the bat colony high in the trees.

We arrived at the small town of Woodenbong and camped at the showground camp. It was $10 for a powered site. It was pretty good especially when compared o the cost. We chatted we a few people then had a walk through town. It was late afternoon so all the shops were closed. The streets were very wide.

Back at the camp, we lit a fire and sat there till it got a bit too chilly on the back.

13 SEPTEMBER 2020

A cold night with a chilly fog.

We had a chat with a few people then headed off to see a few waterfalls.
