Indonesia - Bali - Medewi - May 2010

Medewi is on the west coast of Bali.

I stayed at a small losman in a clean fan room for 70 000 rupiah. There were smaller cheaper rooms. There is also a lot of accommodation in Medewi along the beach to the north and along the road leading to the beach.

The walks around Medewi are very interesting. In the course of an hour walk, I wandered pass a river, rice fields, the town, beach, fishing boats, homes, farm animals and restaurants.

The locals are friendly and helpful. A great place to watch the daily life of Balinese people.

India - Pushkar - 1986

Pushkar is an amazing town in Rajastan, India. the town surrounds one side of a holy lake which is clean and filled with fish. Monkeys jump across the houses. Early mornings and afternoons, the sounds of drums greets or farewells the day. The backdrop is very arid land dotted with separated hills with a temple on top.

A great place to relax.

Switzerland - july 2006

We camped near Interlaken for about a week. The weather was sunny and hot at the start but turned cold and very wet. The camping area was full at the beginning but was empty of tents bar one after two days of rain. Luckily, we had Australian tents.

We wandered around the countryside and the towns. Public transport was easy as we brought an interlaken card which included all forms of transport - chairlifts, trains, trams, buses.

The mountains were spectacular, as were the great walks (eiger trail), alpine botantical gardens, glaciers, cafes, restaurants, rivers and lakes.

Italy - Canazei - july 2006

Canazei is a small town in the north east of Italy. The mountains are rugged and sheer. An easy walk Italian style is a hard one in Australia. There is only one way to go and that is up.

The village is pretty and a river runs the length of the valley. We camped here for a few days. My daughter and I had one big walk that lasted most of thee day. It was very steep but the meadows at the top were very peaceful with small farms of cows and horses. We climbed further over a large 'hill'(starting to rain) and scrabbled down to the ski resort (pouring) and caught a chairlift to the bottom (cold and very wet). It was sunny and warm at the bottom.

Italy - Molveno - july 2006

Molveno is a small town in the north east of Italy. It is a beautiful town perched along the slopes leading up from the lake. The scenery is a backdrop of a blue lake and rugged mountain ranges.

The lake was excellent for a swim and we hired bikes to circumnavigate the lake. We stopped at spots for more swims. the hills around were great for quiet but steep walks. The chairlift was easier!

AUSTRALIA - Lennox Head - april 2004

Lennox Head is the name of the village sitiuated at the southern end of Seven Mile Beach, just north of the Lennox Headland itself.

The permanent resident population is approximately 1900, the total population reaches up to 3000 in peak tourist season.

Lennox head is a quiet town with a small number of restaurants. The beach is white sand. The southern end of the beach has an extensive reef.

Lennox Head has excellent surf though it is difficult to get in and out of the water.

Lake Ainsworth at the northern end of the town is excellent for fresh water swimming.

AUSTRALIA - QUEENSLAND - Yeppoon - october 2003

Yeppoon has a village style appeal yet offers a variety of wonderful restaurants, accommodation, shops and galleries. A charming esplanade with grassy knoll, palms and a covered picnic and play areas form a backdrop to a vista of sea, sky and islands.

As well, annual events, including the Pineapple Festival held in September, enliven the town with gala activities, contests and displays. Local markets offer bargains a plenty.

The whole coastline is protected by the Great Barrier Reef and the Keppel Bay Islands. It has picturesque and safe swimming beaches.
