We cruised along the river visiting chateaux and their attached gardens. Some had hunting dogs or massive vegetable gardens.
The old quarters of the towns were excellent with lots to see and do.

France - Brittany and Normandie - september 2006

We travelled along the coast of Brittany and Normandie and visited many towns and places. The weather was great and coastline was very changeable. The historical parts both inland and on the coast were very interesting with forts and churches.

France - west coast - september 2006

The weather was wet and cold for a few days, our first since Switzerland. We trabelled along the west coast stopping at various towns, islands and beaches. The crowds had gone and finding hotels was easy but camping areas were mainly closed. everywhere seems to have a 'grande plage' - big beach.

France - south west coast - 2 september 2006

Back to basque coast and the summer is coming to an end. We stayed at Bidart for a week. The crowds were there one day and the next day, empty beaches and surf. Great waves and less traffic. Cool!

France - south west coast - august 2006

The Basque coast has wide beautiful beaches to the north and beaches within coves and bays to the south. It is a very pretty coastline. We stayed about a week but it was very crowded with the summer crowds.

THE PYRENNES - France Spain Andorra - august 2006

The Pyrenennes is a mountain range that spans the border between Spain and France. Andorra is a small country within the mountains between France and Spain.

We spent a week driving through the narrow alpine roads visiting and staying at a number of towns. We drove, trekked and walked visiting villages, mountains, caves, an alpine zoo ,as well as, natural, historical and religious sites.

The place seems to have a mystical appeal, especially from a distance.
