BARRINGTON TOPS NATIONAL PARK - 23 TO 25 NOVEMBER 2020

 23 November

We settled into a spot at Gloucester river camp.

The day was hot so we walked to the river and found a pleasant spot to sit and watch the river flow. I dunked myself partly in the water and it was icy cold.

Later, I rode the mountain bike on the Gloucester River track. It was a fun ride. I started portaging my bike through the river then followed the undulating track for over 2 km. The track was firm and flowing in sections but every now and then the edges gave way making for some tricky recoveries.

We drove to the top of Gloucester Tops for the hiking tracks.

Our first hike was on the Gloucester Falls track. The track was easy to follow with sign posts. In parts there were minor steep sections. The falls had a lookout which was a bit ordinary but a little further along the track there was a side track that lead to the top of the falls and a number of swimming holes. It was very pretty.

The second hike was the Beech Forest Track. There were two ways to tackle the track the short or the long way. We chose the long way. The vegetation was relatively sparse at ground level and deep shades of green was the main feature – green ferns, green moss green canopy. There were a number of small water falls and cascades along the track as it followed a creek. The last falls were very pretty cascading down the slope in various drops.

25 November

We packed and left for Walcha.
