BATEAU BAY & BLUE LAGOON HIKE - 17 MAY 2016

A sunny morning with light wind. The morning started off chilly but soon was soon warm.

I went for a hike/wander along the shoreline between Bateau Bay and Blue Lagoon.

I walked down the steps at Bateau bay to the sound of many birds. and snips of views across Bateau Bay and Crackneck Point.

I followed the beach and saw a guy snorkeling over a small reef close to shore. The water was a bit cool so it explained why he was moving so fast.

There are a number of small rocky reefs at Bateau Bay and I spend some time glazing at the small waves breaking across them.

I walked along the edge of the dry rocks between Bateau Bay and Blue Lagoon. I tried walking along in the shallow water but the rocks were too slippery. This is the second rrocky area that I.ve walked around previously that were fine but are now very slippery. I hope my theory is wrong but I use to remember that the rocks were covered with a more sea mollusks. Maybe the lack off mollusks has resulted in an increase in the slime that they fed upon.

As I walked along the foreshore there were a number of birds foraging for food along the cliff and the scree of rocks at the base of the cliffs.

I reached Blue Lagoon and walked along the seaweed strewn beach. There was a nice view back along the rock platform and towards Shelley Beach.

I continued through the camping area that was along the beach and upwards towards the tracks of Wyrrabalong National Park. There were some short tracks off the main track that lead to viewpoints along the coast. Nice!

A pleasant wandering 1.56km hike on beaches, rocks and bush tracks.

CENTRAL COAST HIKE - BATEAU BAY - 20 MAY 2015

An early morning hike at Bateau Bay.

The sunrise was more of a contrasting black and white affair with the low dark clouds and the rocks and their reflective grey skies pools of water.

It was a pleasant and slippery walk on the rocks.

At Crackneck Point, there were some waves and no one out. I sat and watched the waves for awhile.

CENTRAL COAST - Bateau Bay - snorkel - 26 November 2010

The NE wind was increasing so i tried a snorkel at Bateau Bay. It was protected from the wind but the water was a little churned up. Plus not using a snorkel made snorkelling difficult. Funny that!

CENTRAL COAST - Bateau Bay to Shelley Beach - HIKE - 8 August 2010

I parked at Bateau Bay and walked the short distance to Shelley Beach via the coast. The tide was low so a lot of marine life was visible. The sooty oyster catcher was meandering around the wave zone looking for shellfish. It was an easy and interesting walk which took me an hoiur but is probably a ten minute walk.

CENTRAL COAST - Wyrrabalong NP - Crackneck Lookout to Shelley Beach - HIKE - 20 June 2010

Today is a great day for a walk being a warm sunny winter’s day.

Drove to Crackneck Point Lookout, took in the expansive views of the north coastline and setoff along the coastal track.

 

The track was easy with some wattles blooming. Along the descent and at the bottom of the hill there a number of breaks in the vegetation affording views over Bateau Bay.

There are a few access tracks, stairs to the beach below. I took one in the centre of the beach.

Back to the top, I followed the track around to Blue Lagoon and then Shelley Beach. At the centre of the beach is a surf club and kiosk.

CENTRAL COAST - Bateau Bay to Crackneck - HIKE - 20 december 2009

Cloudy and cool temperature day. Good for a walk.

Parked at south end of Bateau Bay. Walk down the ramp or stairs and on to the beach. The bay is partially sheltered and good for a swim though it is unpatrolled.

Walking south there is a large shore platform from the edge of the beach to Crackneck Point. Along the way there are shallow pools of water and even mangroves at one spot. The cliff background is densely vegetated with native and weed growth.

Birdlife varied with crows, seagulls and other sea birds. Molluscs clump in species groups along the surface of the rock platform and mix together in the watery crevices.

 

There are floaters of iron oxide amongst the sandstone which shows the development of pools in various stages. This has developed into interesting formations of sandstone similiar to a maze at the northern end of the rock shelf.

warnings: best 3 hours either side of low tide, rock platform is very slippery in parts.
