MAITLAND BAY HIKE - 18 MAY 2016

I drove to Bouddi National park for a hike down and along Maitland Bay.

The walk down was along steps and a track. Highlights - trees growing over rocks, a bridge, a ferned gully, huge majestic trees, views down to Maitland Bay, steps hewn into and between large boulders.

At the southern end of the beach I walked along the rocks and was impressed by the patterns in the sandstone and the view north.

The beach walk was nice with the waves lapping up the sand wetting my feet.

The north end was rocky and the water too high for a decent rock scramble but still the views south were nice.

Back along the beach, I walked along the base of the cliff until I reached a pond of water which was fed by two creeks. Some nice reflections at this spot.

The return walk from the beach to car park was about 20 minutes of steep pleasant walking.

A great 3.55 km hike with some nice surprises - sunrise through the clouds, vegetation silhouetted against the dispersed morning light, waves lapping the sand and beautiful sandstone patterns.

BATEAU BAY & BLUE LAGOON HIKE - 17 MAY 2016

A sunny morning with light wind. The morning started off chilly but soon was soon warm.

I went for a hike/wander along the shoreline between Bateau Bay and Blue Lagoon.

I walked down the steps at Bateau bay to the sound of many birds. and snips of views across Bateau Bay and Crackneck Point.

I followed the beach and saw a guy snorkeling over a small reef close to shore. The water was a bit cool so it explained why he was moving so fast.

There are a number of small rocky reefs at Bateau Bay and I spend some time glazing at the small waves breaking across them.

I walked along the edge of the dry rocks between Bateau Bay and Blue Lagoon. I tried walking along in the shallow water but the rocks were too slippery. This is the second rrocky area that I.ve walked around previously that were fine but are now very slippery. I hope my theory is wrong but I use to remember that the rocks were covered with a more sea mollusks. Maybe the lack off mollusks has resulted in an increase in the slime that they fed upon.

As I walked along the foreshore there were a number of birds foraging for food along the cliff and the scree of rocks at the base of the cliffs.

I reached Blue Lagoon and walked along the seaweed strewn beach. There was a nice view back along the rock platform and towards Shelley Beach.

I continued through the camping area that was along the beach and upwards towards the tracks of Wyrrabalong National Park. There were some short tracks off the main track that lead to viewpoints along the coast. Nice!

A pleasant wandering 1.56km hike on beaches, rocks and bush tracks.

TERRIGAL HAVEN ROCKS HIKE - 2 MAY 2016

An early morning hike around the rocks at Terrigal Haven. A leisurely walk over some very slippery rocks. So pretty, so peaceful.

Pelicans preening.

Water flowing over the rocks

The sun rising behind the cliff .

A simple shell with light and shadow.

The morning sun and all its glory.

Morning delight of pelicans in flight.

Ocean kayakers in the morning twinkles.

The wave has passed and the seaweed and rocks sit in reflective stillness.

The cliffs of golden sandstone.

Usually wild but today pretty.

A wave of foam.

CENTRAL COAST - TERRIGAL HAVEN – HIKE - 9 OCTOBER 2014 - 'HAVEN CRAVEN'

I went for an early morning walk at Terrigal Haven.

I parked in the Haven carpark and walked down the boat ramp and onto the rocks. I followed the rocks around to the small cove next to the Skillion. The colours were amazing with the early morning light giving a fiery life to the sandstone cliffs. The waves were also doing there part by smashing into the rock platform, exploding into the air and cascading gently to the ground.

Next, I walked up the Skillion. The view is awesome looking back towards Terrigal or towards Avoca on downwards onto the rocks. No whale sightings.
It was a nice way to start the day.

CENTRAL COAST - Copacabana - snorkel - 27 November 2010

The northern end of Copacabana was protected and off shore in the north east wing. The snorkelling looked inviting.

Generally, the water was clear with a small swell. It was fun looking at the bottom where i've surfed a few times. Shallow in parts, rocks jutting upwards and an irregular bottom.

Water was very cold.

AUSTRALIA - Hawks Nest - Yacaaba Heads base - HIKE - January 2009

Walk along Hawkes Nest Beach to the southern end to reach Yacaaba Heads.

The walk starts off easy with a track leading over the rocky base of the headland. A few small beaches are passed along the way until the path ends and the rocks become huge and cliff edge of the headland dominates.

Now the walk becomes a scramble and climb over and under rocks and edging along the cliff edge. At times, the only way to pass is high and at others it is close to the water line. There were also parts where you had to hang upside down to lower yourself to the level below. Hard but fun.

Eventually, the way becomes impassable either high or low without becoming dangerous due to deep crevasses in the sheer cliff face.

Time: 3 hours

CENTRAL COAST - Forrester Beach - HIKE - 1 October 2009

Park the car at any access point to forrester beach.

I walked along the beach about three hours before low tide and no sea swell. The walk along the beach was easy and pleasant. The rocks at the north end are easy to navigate and there are plenty of rockpools and flat rock areas. I walked until I had a clear view of the rocks and coastline ahead. Though it was pretty, I didn't go further. The walk back was striking due to the rock platforms being exposed by the extreme low tide.

grade: easy
time : depends on how far you walk along the rocks
warnings: do the walk as the tide is going low and little wave action.
