30 MARCH
FRIENDLY BEACHES
After leaving
Mayfield, we stopped at SPIKY BRIDGE. A convict-built bridge with spikes of
stone jutting up from the stone railings. The bridge itself was constructed in
a layered pancake fashion. It looked very sturdy.
We drove a short
distance to SPIKY BEACH. A great view along the coast and a short walk down to
the beach. All very pretty.
We stopped briefly at
Swansea for coffee.
Next was the FRIENDLY
BEACHES. We were lucky and claimed a free campsite opposite a small white sand
beach. The wind was strong and we were reasonably protected from it by the
thick vegetation. A walk along the beach and the rocks towards the south. There
were a lot of birds on the beach – gulls and oyster catchers. The coastline was
very pretty with the Freycinet Peninsula in the distance.
31 MARCH
FRIENDLY BEACHES
It rained a little
during the night and we woke to less strong winds. I had an early walk along
the beach and after breakfast we decided to head off.
