KINCUMBA MOUNTAIN - TRACKS, TRAILS, MTB - 22 OCTOBER 2018

I drove to the top of Kincumba Mountain Region Reserve for a mountain bike ride.

I was hoping that the tracks would be drier but alas another biker said that the longer tracks were rutted, wet and soft.

I stuck to the service roads mainly and took a few side tracks that I thought would be relatively dry. Luckily, the short tracks were dry and fun to ride.

I spied a new track and followed it a short distance before it abruptly ended.

Another new track that joined onto the Sid Pulsford Trail was steep and difficult in parts but was doable. There was one part where the track dropped straight down about a metre and a half. Beyond me. :)

It was nice to ride a few tracks.

SUNRISE, MOUNTAIN BIKE, OCEAN SWIM AND RELAX - 23 MAY 2017

An inspiring sunrise over Wamberal Beach for the start of a new day. Puts me in a feel good mood.

I checked the surf at Wamberal and Avoca beaches but it was a no go.

Still feeling good, I drove up to Kincumba Mountain and rode a few of the tracks.

A fun ride, especially, since I've been losing a bit of weight and bit up a bit of riding advice. It surprised me that leaning forward with your chin over the handle bars when going downhill leads to better control and a smoother ride. Works!

A few of the steeper inclines were a little punishing. Maybe, I was going at them a little harder for a bit too long. Anyway, my legs were on fire a few times!

After the ride, I got a cappuccino and sat on the beach at Terrigal Haven. Always such a nice relaxing view.

Still feeling good, I had an ocean swim, saw a large stingray then it was back home for the daily chores.

Later in morning, Kara, Mr Archibald and I had an outing at Wamberal Lagoon. The sun was warm and the scenery relaxing. Of course, Mr Archibald wanted a photo shoot.

KINCUMBA MOUINTAIN MTB - 26 FEBRUARY 2017

Yesterday, I had not too early surf at North Avoca.

The ocean was smooth and there were a few okay rights and lefts breaking. I was lucky in that there was a strong rip and it kept pulling the crowd down the beach away from the peaks during the lull in the waves.

Afterwards, I met Jacinta for a cappuccino at the haven.

The rest of the day it was raining pretty heavily at times so I did a number of inside tasks that I had been saving for a rainy day.

This morning the waves were messy with a strong onshore wind but the rain had stopped and it was a pretty sunrise.

I had a 4.54 km mountain bike ride on the tracks at Kincumba Mountain.

It was heaps of fun and seemed so easy after the much harder ride I had the other day at Ourimbah.

I met Jacinta for coffee and headed home while she had a walk around the haven.

The rest of the day was doing home tasks.

We are getting the fence replaced so I needed to adjust one of the retaining walls in our yard. Our home is on a sloping block and over the years I have built a number of retaining walls to hold the soil to grow plants or have paved sitting areas.

KINCUMBA MOUNTAIN - KANNING TRAIL HIKE - 27 JANUARY 2017

I awoke to a light drizzle of rain. I drove down to Wamberal and North Avoca to check the waves and decided on a bike or hike at Kincumba Mountain.

I arrived at Kincumba Mountain and decided on a hike as the tracks looked a bit too wet. When it's too wet,  parts of the track are a little more fragile and bike tyres tend to tear the dirt up ruining the track eventually.

I decided on the Kanning Track.

It was an easy walk along a defined track. The vegetation was looking very green as after a bit of rain the dust is washed off the leaves and the dampness adds a reflective sheen.

The track follows the base of a group of boulders alongside ferns and moss covered rocks and logs. At about 1/2 way, there was a small cave that was big enough to enter and stand. Further on, I took a detour which lead above the track I had just followed so that I was on top of the boulders with a view looking down on where I had been.

Unfortunately, I forgot to use insect repellent and the mosquitoes were in large quantities and eager for a feed at my expense. It was a bit distracting.

A nice 1.23 km hike through a light drizzle.

KINCUMBA MOUNTAIN MTB - 20 AUGUST 2016

Kincumber Mountain has some of the best tracks in the area for mountain biking. The last time I was here, most of the tracks had been covered with branches, etc and signs prohibited riding and walking.

Ah well, that's the way it goes. I went for a ride late in the afternoon, mainly for some exercise and when I pedaled past the closed tracks.... the signs were gone... well, maybe someone removed them and the tracks were still covered. The tracks were clear and all signs were gone.

It was such a fun and exciting ride.

Sometimes when you least expect it... a great 4.5km ride

KINCUMBA MOUNTAIN MTB - 28 JULY 2016

The unauthorized tracks have been blocked. hopefully, they will be opened again as they were the best tracks in the area.

I followed the service road and a few shorter tracks remain at the end of the ride.

Still, an exercising and fun 3.55 km ride.

KINCUMBA MOUNTAIN MTB - 12 SEPTEMBER 2015

Another ride at the mountain.

I have been enjoying the ride has it is a short drive to start from home and it has a number of challenges but isn't over the top.

I ran into Michael and friend along the track.

Driving up the hill to the reserve a wallaby hopped across the road.

Along the track I came across a brush turkey. Funny birds, instead of running away into the bush it ran along following the track. It kept looking back at me freaking that I was still there then picking up pace again. Eventually, it ran off the track and back to it's personal sanity.

A 5km ride with 40m elevation range.

CENTRAL COAST MTB - KINCUMBA MOUNTAIN - SID PULSFORD TRACKS - 14 MAY 2015

Brisk and sunny morning.

Started at the top of Kincumba Mountain and rode along the Sid Pulsford Track. The track is very steep at the start and the gravel was large and loose after the recent heavy rains. It was a bit difficult to ride as twice the front wheel spun out when it hit the loose gravel the wrong way.

Part of the way along, I turned off down a narrow track to my left. This part was a fun ride being steep with obstacles before it joined onto the main trail.

I crossed the main trail and followed another track which transverse the hill and passed through pretty bush scenery. It lead to the top of the ridge. At the ridge top, there was a left and right turn. The left lead to end of the ridge and a series of boulders. From here I could look down to where I had transversed across the hill.

The right turn was a good ride though a lot of loose branches to watch on the ground. You know... trying to avoid sticks piercing you or getting caught in the wheels etc. The track lead to the crossroad of another trail. From here, you could go left or right. The right trail surface was muddy and sandstone in parts. This trail would have lead down to street level.

The left turn after a short while turned to corrugated concrete. It was very steep and so the concrete purpose was to stop the trail being washed away. A track to the left lead to a view. Once again loose branches and sticks was a problem. I continued to the base of the concrete trail and soon joined up with the first narrow track I took.

The final hill back to the car park was a steep ride down and it was a steep walk back but the scenery was pleasant with ferns and weather eroded sandstone boulders. Towards the end of the top, there is a stack of chopped and piled vegetation to the right which was blocking an old and fun trail back to the open area top of the mountain and carpark. There was a obscure track around it and I finished my ride riding along this fun, narrow, winding track.

CENTRAL COAST MTB - KINCUMBA MOUNTAIN - 2 APRIL 2015

The surf was smaller this morning with a high tide so off for a bike ride.

I was just going to do a short run but ended up extending my ride.

The first trail was wet with puddles of water. It was challenging to miss the water yet keep up speed.

I cycled over to the northern side of the reserve and followed a steep trail down hill. It was fun with a lot of loose rock. I took a narrow turn off but only followed a short distance as I wasn't sure where it lead and the track was very muddy and loose.

It was a steep ride/walk back up the hill.

distance - approx. 8 km
elevation range - 145 metres

CENTRAL COAST MTB - KINCUMBA MOUNTAIN - 15 march 2015

distance  - 8.95 km
elevation range - 141 m

I was going for a short ride but ended up exploring a few trails I haven't  been on before.

The first track down was steep with drops, and steps and slippery stuff. But I got down with some side slipping in parts.

Another trail was a one way event to Pickets Valley ending in someone's backyard. It was a level track with a number f birds darting here and there.

Going back up wasn't too bad. There were sections I walked and some I rode.

Overall it was a good fun ride!

CENTRAL COAST BIRDS - 'ARCHIE ON THE MOUNTAIN' - 3 march 2015

My daughter and I drove to the top of Kincumba Mountain Reserve to take Archie her new 'dusky lorikeet' on it's first day outing.

We sat on the rocks and watched the bird grow in confidence to explore his new world.

A relaxing afternoon.

CENTRAL COAST - RIGHT EAR OPERATION - 25 FEBRUARY 2015

I started the morning with a surf check then a bike ride around Kincumba Mountain Reserve.

It was a good ride. I have been watching MTB videos to improve my biking skills and they feel like they are paying off.

In the afternoon, I had my right ear drilled.

Back at home now and recovering. No surf for about a month.

CENTRAL COAST - KINCUMBA MOUNTAIN - MTB - 8 FEBRUARY 2015

I watched a view you tube videos on improving bike skills. Time to put theory into practise.

I concentrated on balance. It felt much better in that my riding felt smoother.

I also practised going over logs and drops. They felt more comfortable with the improved balance.

CENTRAL COAST - Kincumba Mountain - MTB - 6 July 2010

I went for a cycle along the tracks at Kincumba Mountain Reserve. It was fun, especially trying to balance the camera on the bumpy tracks.

There were great views over Avoca from Warriwarri Lookout.

Getting there

Drive by car to Kincumber Mountain reserve. Turn right just before the shopping centre at Kincumber at . Next, turn right at the first roundabout at Kincumber Street. Follow this street until the end. It joins onto a road leading up to the picnic area at Kincumber Mountain.

The picnic area has a mud house and toilets, parking and a ranger station at the northern end. The area is wide and there are tables and benches available. It is a nice place to rest or have a bit of fun while overlooking the view of Brisbane Water.

Warriwarri Lookout

The start of the Warriwarri Lookout track and the Sid Pulsford walk starts just a little to the west of the northern car park. The trail is wide with a variety of vegetation lining the edges of the walk. There are a number of large trees with a dry flora at ground level.

After a short distance, the trail spits into two directions (Warriwarri lookout and Sid Pulsford Walk). Continue along the trail until a sign indicates Warriwarri Lookout. There is a bench seat which overlooks the lookout. The lookout is a series of descending sandstone boulders. The view affords glimpses of Bensville and the surrounding areas through the trees. At this point, there are tracks that lead to urbanised areas.
When leaving the lookout there is a narrow track to the left. This track skirts the cliff and gives various northern views through the trees before turning inwards and back to the Lookout trail. Retrace your steps back to the car park.

CENTRAL COAST - Kincumba Mountain - Sid Pulsford Trail - HIKE - 17 September 2008

Sid Pulsford Walk

This is a challenging walk and is quite pretty in certain parts. The trail is wide and descends steeply along a fire trail. Upon reaching the bottom of this section, there is a deep valley on the left side of the trail. Looking down into the valley there is a covering of soft ferns, umbrella palms and large trees. Birds can be heard amongst the tree canopy.

The trail ascends to drier vegetation. At the crest, there is a trail to the right. This leads to a dead end where a sewer exhaust pipe is located. Continuing, the trail begins to descend again with grasses lining the road. Not long after descending, there is a track to the left. This pretty track follows the contour line through the bush and eventually joins up with the trail again. Taking this track, avoids a very steep descent and climb.

The trail undulates a little and divides into two directions. Take the by pass and rest area track as this avoids the other trail which has a very steep decent and ascent. The rest area is an overhanging rock which is excellent to sit under, have something to eat and drink and enjoy the views of the bush area. Above the overhang, is a series of sandstone boulders leading further up the hill like stepping stones.

After resting, walk back down the track to the by-pass trail and follow this through the bush. A lookout gives views of the west through the vegetation. The trail rejoins the track. A turn to the right leads to another lookout. Retrace your steps back to the track and continue to the reservoir which is the end of the walk. Retrace your steps, back to the northern car park.
