CENTRAL COAST - 25 TO 31 DECEMBER 2022

 

25 DECEMBER

Christmas ... there's no other day like it during the year. Family together - xmas breakfast, brunch, lunch and afternoon brunch - presents opened around the tree - Secret Santa presents - Christmas music - moderate drinking throughout the day - endless washing up - :)

26 DECEMBER

An ocean swim at the Haven. The water was very clear. Saw lots of fish as I swam towards the buoy.

27 DECEMBER

Mountain biking at Kincumba Mountain. A good, controlled ride on firm tracks. Chatted with a coupled of runners. Enjoyed the view at Colin Watters Lookout. I was sweating by the time I finished. :)

Down to the Haven for a snorkel to cool off and stretch the body. I saw the huge catfish again. The colours are amazing.

28 DECEMBER

A hike around Avoca Point with Jacinta. Usually, there is a few people but today the rocks were lined with fishermen and fisherwomen. They were right on the edge, and it looked a bit dangerous with an incoming tide and increasing swell.

As the tide was dead low, I was able to go further around the rocks safely to go into the cave. Well, it looked safer from an ocean point of view, but all the rocks showed that it wasn't so safe from above.

Later, I had a snorkel at the haven, but the visibility was terrible for filming.

29 DECEMBER

Jacinta and I had a walk around the haven. Jacinta continued to walk while I had an ocean swim of the haven. We united for coffee.

30 DECEMBER

A surf at Wamberal Beach. It wasn't very good but there were a few okay waves before the wind increased.

A late afternoon hike around the top of Rumbalara Reserve with Jacinta. It had been a hot day and the cool breeze at the top of the mountain was very welcomed.

31 DECEMBER

I checked the surf and decided on a kayak at Terrigal Lagoon. There was little wind, and the water was very reflective. The highlight was a group of baby ducklings on a small island near the golf course.

Jacinta was doing an urban walk and we met at the haven for coffee.

KINCUMBA MOUNTAIN - KANNING TRAIL HIKE - 27 JANUARY 2017

I awoke to a light drizzle of rain. I drove down to Wamberal and North Avoca to check the waves and decided on a bike or hike at Kincumba Mountain.

I arrived at Kincumba Mountain and decided on a hike as the tracks looked a bit too wet. When it's too wet,  parts of the track are a little more fragile and bike tyres tend to tear the dirt up ruining the track eventually.

I decided on the Kanning Track.

It was an easy walk along a defined track. The vegetation was looking very green as after a bit of rain the dust is washed off the leaves and the dampness adds a reflective sheen.

The track follows the base of a group of boulders alongside ferns and moss covered rocks and logs. At about 1/2 way, there was a small cave that was big enough to enter and stand. Further on, I took a detour which lead above the track I had just followed so that I was on top of the boulders with a view looking down on where I had been.

Unfortunately, I forgot to use insect repellent and the mosquitoes were in large quantities and eager for a feed at my expense. It was a bit distracting.

A nice 1.23 km hike through a light drizzle.

KINCUMBA MOUNTAIN - KANNING TRACK - HIKE - 17 FEBRUARY 2016

A cloudy morning with a peep of sunrise.



I ride around Kincumba Mountain a lot but when I originally started visiting the area I was mainly hiking. I'm not quite ready for a bike ride yet but I was very keen for a bush hike.

I chose the Kanning Track as it easy and has a lot to offer in a short hike.

Firstly, it was nice to meander along a track with natural bushland all around me. secondly, my walking speed was a bit slow and careful so I spent a lot of time looking at the smaller things - the texture of a tree's bark, the fronds of the ferns and rock shapes.

A few features of the walk was a large fallen tree at the beginning of the track. The root system of the base of the tree lined the edge of the path in a vertical direction.  Another large fallen tree on a sandstone rock platform looked like the base was sliced smoothly off the rock. Further along the track was a cave. Not very deep but deep enough to give easy protection from the elements.

A great hike.

CENTRAL COAST - AVOCA POINT – HIKE – 12 OCTOBER 2014 - 'ZIP BIT TI DO DAR...'

The skies were clear and blue and the temperature warm.

 Jacinta and I drove over to Avoca and parked in Avoca Beach carpark near the surf lifesaving club.

We walked along the path then down the rocky path to the shore platform around Avoca Point. It was a bit slippery in parts with a few rock pools. The rock formations were interesting. The cliffs were staggering high when up close and personal. The thought of rocks falling were very realistic.

Just where the platform ended there were a few steps at the base of the cliff around a narrow bend. A small cave was gouged into the base of the cliff by wave action and rock falls.

Indonesia - Sumbawa - Lakey - hill view - april 2010

 

The land backdrop of Lakey is lush green hills. On 12 may 2010, we drove the motorbikes to the foot of the hills, then climbed to a viewing rock where we were afforded panoramic views across Lakey, Hu’u and the surrounding countryside. On the way, we came across the Japanese cave and climbed inside.

 

The walk though not far was strenuous due to the high humidity in the surrounding jungle and the steepness of the track. Overall, the walk is worth the view.

Don’t forget to take water and camera.
