CENTRAL COAST - 14 TO 17 JUNE 2022

14 JUNE

Early morning kayak at Mooney Mooney Creek.

I have kayaked here on a number of occasions but this time it was misty and very cold. The mist was thick at the beginning casting the world into an out-of-focus hue. As it lifted, it became more magical as it floated lightly over the water. The sun was reaching parts of the creek and it was a welcome relief when I was able to paddle into its rays as my hands were very chilled. Along the way, there were perfect reflections and the ending was pretty with large boulders and ferns.

15 JUNE

Still in the kayak mode, I drove over to the Wyong River and launched at the old Milk Factory.

The water was sort of greenish and there were some great reflections of the river bank along the way.

The river had a lot of tree obstacles to paddle around and through. It did feel a bit wary paddling at times past trees that were probably due to fall in the water. The paddled ended with a log jam of a number of trees.

16 JUNE

A coastal hike from Pearl Beach to Middle Head.

A perfect day – sunshining, low swell, no wind. The hike had the most amazing coastal views with a backdrop of sandstone cliffs and greenery. There rocks were interesting to walk over with numerous shellfish clinging to the in the tidal zone. Towards the end just before middle beach, there was a small beach and some large boulders to climb. I sat here  for a while enjoying the view.

On the return, I sat on Peral Beach and enjoyed a coffee.

17 JUNE

A hike at Wagstaffe Hill with Jacinta.

This hike stated on the steps to Lobster Beach. At the top of the hill, just after the descent, we turned off and followed a track to the right. This track wound its way around two rocky hills. The bush was thick in the beginning and opened up to tall trees with lighter vegetation. There was a drop to the south with views over the Box and Umina and to the north were jumbles of boulders and cliffs which were the hills. At the far end of the loop hike, we turned off to the right and scaled the path and rocks to the top of the hill. There were awesome views of coast south and partial views of Brisbane Water. There were heaps of flattened boulders to hop across for a different view.

We stopped at Killcare Beach surf club for coffee and lunch

CENTRAL COAST - 30 MAY TO 12 JUNE 2022

30 MAY

Caught a virus. Damn! 😊

5 JUNE

A short walk at the Haven with Jacinta. A couple of laps and I was so tired.

7 JUNE

Feeling a bit better today. I had a walk around the haven rocks and Jacinta walked the paths.

8 JUNE

A fun mountain bike ride at Kincumber Mountain. Maybe shouldn’t have done this as I felt not so good after the ride.

12 JUNE

Feeling better again but low on energy.

A hike along the Strickland Falls track with Jacinta. Lots of greenery but not much water at the falls.

Afterwards, we checked out the regional art gallery, wandered around the Japanese gardens and had coffee at the café.

BOUDDI NP COASTAL HIKE - 22 FEBRUARY 2017

A morning sunrise at North Avoca then over to Copacabana for a surf check. Both were looking smooth but no quality in the waves.

I continued onwards to Putty Beach in Bouddi National Park.

I walked along the beach watching the small waves break and foam white for a short distance up the sand till their energy was spent and they backwashed to add to the size of the next wave. And so it continued.

At the end of the beach I climbed the stairs to the top of the headland and followed the track and raised path to the next beach. I was a pleasant walk with:

coastal views towards Sydney
sheer cliffs
waves crashing into and over the rocks
tessellating sandstone
bird call
and wooden stairs

I spent a bit of time sitting on a rock at the end of the beach watching the waves break over the sand and the rocks with an expansive coastal background. All very pretty and serene.

After the hike, I had an ocean swim at Terrigal Haven with a cappuccino

About mid morning, my daughter and her bird went to Killcare swim for a swim and lunch. Archibald, her bird was the star of the afternoon show, as usual.

GIRRAKOOL LOOP HIKE AND PUTTY BEACH - 7 JANUARY 2017

What a great day. I woke so early. Well too early and couldn't get back to sleep.

At sunrise I checked the surf and found it in need of improvement. I chatted to a few fellow surfers and decided on a bike ride at Brisbane Water NP. On the way, it started to spit rain so I change my mind to a hike at Girrakool.

A good choice as the hike is only about two kilometres and very diverse. the first attraction was a large area of sandstone where the creek flows over and under. There are a number of cascades here and it is so pretty and serene.

The creek eventually, plummets about 15 metres in a pool of dark water where it is joined by another creek and becomes Piles Creek. I followed the track back along the other small creek and had a short diversion where another waterfall falls into a shallow pool. The area is rainforest like and the humidity high. Once again so pretty.

It was a great hike along an easy track.

I drove to Terrigal Haven next for an ocean swim.

I crashed out and had a long snooze due to my lack of sleep.

When I woke, Jacinta and I went to Putty Beach, which is part of Bouddi National Park.

We lased in the sun and had cool swims in the calm, clean water. I had a hike along the rocks and over the point's undulating cliff and back along the coastal track to Putty Beach.

What a great day! :) :) :)
